Barentain no omoide
The Japanese celebrate Valentine’s Day in a rather unique way. It is only the women who give presents (mainly chocolates) to men. My first Valentine’s Day experience was when I was in grade 3. There was a boy I liked in my class. I was too shy to act by myself, so I talked to my friend and we gave chocolates together to the boys (she had another boy she liked). She is still my best friend after all these years, but I haven’t seen the boy since I graduated from elementary school.

日本人はバレンタインデーをちょっと変わったふうに祝います。女の人だけが男の人にプレゼント（主にチョコレート）をあげるのです。私がバレンタインデーに初めてチョコレートをあげたのは、小学校三年生のときでした。クラスに好きな男の子がいました。一人であげるのは恥ずかしかったので、友達に相談して一緒に男の子たちに（その友達にも他に好きな男の子がいたのです。）チョコレートをあげました。小学校を卒業して以来、私はその好きだった男の子には会ったことがないのですが、女の子の友達とは何年もたった今でも親友です。
