Japanese Emperor's Visit to Canada

Japanese Emperor's Visit to Canada

The Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko of Japan had a 12-day visit to Canada recently. It marks the 80th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Canada and Japan. They also cerebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this year. I was fortunate to be able to see them closely. Some of my friends were more fortunate and were able to shake hands or speak with them. There are not many opportunities to see them even if you are in Japan. I've never been a big fan of royalty, but when I saw them I was quite touched by their dignity and their friendly manner. I felt patriotic waving the Japanese flag along with everyone else that had come to see them.
