Kanji of the Week

Kanji Rule (5): Circles Became Squares.

Pictures are turned into kanji, but there are no circles used in kanji. Therefore circles became squares. The curved lines also became straight lines.

  • Meaning
    bow

  • Reading
    On-reading: kyuu
    Kun-reading: yumi

  • Mnemonics
A bow has curved lines. In kanji, the curved lines became straight lines. The string of the bow is so thin that you can't see it, therefore there is no straight line on the left side.
