Kanji Rule (3): 
Adjectives Can Also Become Pictures.

Adjectives can also be expressed by shapes. For example, the character for "big." People spread their arms to show the size. By looking at this shape, you can tell the size.

  • Meaning
    pleasant

  • Reading
    On-reading: raku, gaku
    Kun-reading: tano(shii)

  • Mnemonics
    There is a drum in the middle and the gongs are on both sides of the drum. They are sitting on top of a wooden base. It is pleasant when you listen to music. This kanji character means, "pleasant."
