Q. What does "bonyari" mean?
A. The words like "bonyari" are called gitaigo (words mimicking states). They directly express states or actions of people and things. There are two different meanings for "bonyari" depending on the context.
(1) A state in which the mind is blank.|
Ken wa itsumo jugyouchu bonyari shiteimasu. 健はいつも授業中 ぼんやりしています。 |
Ken is always
absent minded in the class. |
(2) Used when colors or shapes are blurred.

Umi no mukou ni shima ga bonyari miemasu. 海の向こうに島が ぼんやり見えます。 |
The island is dimly visible over the sea. |
